Before I get into my embroidery machine reviews and recommendations, I wanted to make sure that you were aware that there are a two different configurations to choose from: single and multi-head.
What are the Different Types of Embroidery/Monogram Machines?
1. Single Head/Single Needle Embroidery Machine
The single head /single needle looks like a regular sewing machine. The single needle versions are less expensive and geared towards home use. The single needle models only allow one spool of thread on at a time which means that you have to change the thread each time you want to change the color. For home projects this usually isn’t a concern.
2. Single Head/Multi Needle Embroidery Machine
If you are starting a commercial business, you would definitely want a unit that is multi-needle. They are much faster and more accurate than their single needle cousins and you can load many different colors at once and not have to change them during the stitching process. This can save you a lot of time in the process and time is money if you are trying to run a successful business.
The single needle machines are the ones that I will review in this post. I am an at-home crafter that does it for a hobby and am not in need of a faster and more elaborate product. Continue below to find my recommendations for use in your home.
What Are the Price Ranges?
Embroidery machines start at the mid price-point range. To get an inexpensive one, you will be starting at around $350. If you want a higher end home machine then you will need to spend at least $500.
If you are looking to start your own embroidering business or want a professional version then you will be looking at around a $3,000 price tag. However, if you are serious about this, these machines are truly worth it.
Best Embroidery Machine – Computerized & Multi Needle
One thing to keep in mind is that yes, each one does have varying amounts of designs pre-installed. Typically these machines have from 70 to 136 different designs pre-loaded into the machines and that include many font options and other fun designs to choose from.
You can also learn about the different embroidery machine stitches here.
However, you should note that the models reviewed below also have USB ports. What this means is that it allows you to download thousands of other designs with the only limit being your imagination. Therefore, the amount of pre-loaded designs really aren’t all that important. You can always download the ones you want. It is far more important to consider the size of the areas you wish to work with. The larger the area the more room you can embroider in.
Let’s move on to my reviews…
1. Brother PE880 Sewing and Embroidery Machine
If you want the best embroidery-only machine, then look no further. There is a reason this is the #1 embroidery machine on Amazon.
The PE880 is an powerful, jam-packed, reliable machine and the best embroidery machine for a home business or for enthusiasts.
The Brother PE880 comes with 136 different embroidery designs and 6 fonts, but also comes with a USB port that allows you to access thousands of new patterns with ease. It has a very large 5 by 7 inch embroidery area that is perfect if you want to have the option of working on bigger projects.
Don’t let the “computerized” designation scare you away because this is actually surprisingly easy to use. The touchable LCD screen allows you to choose from the 136 built-in designs, 6 fonts, rotate the design, and increase/decrease the size of the design with the touch of your finger. Even if you do get lost or aren’t sure what to do there is a set of step-by-step instructions that will have you up and running in no time.
Loading a bobbin and threading is also a breeze. Simply drop the bobbin in it with the thread pointing the correct way and it is ready to go!
I was also surprised by how fast and smooth this unit was. Even though you only have one needle, your projects can be completed quickly due to the speed of the needle going 650 stitches per minute. I have completed hundreds of embroidery projects with this model including pillows, t-shirts, monograms and blankets and have never had a stitch done out of place.
Another great feature is the included USB flash drive port. This allows you to download hundreds or even thousands of additional designs onto it giving you endless options. There are a ton of great patterns on the internet that you can get for free so this is a really amazing feature for those of us who love to sew and are always looking for something new.
What else can I say? This is one amazing product! The retail price of this unit is $2500, but often you can find it below $1000. I’ve also written and in-depth review you can find here.
