  1. This purchase is going to be for my 6-year old granddaughter….has done some projects wih her aunt who sews, and is really excited about pursuing this with her own machine. Have read all your reviews & still can’t decide between the 3 janome Hello Kitty models (11706, 13512′ 15822). Leaning toward the 06 or 22 because they have free arm feature….don’t think 12 does. Have read your reviews and some on Amazon for each, but maybe you could answer a question I don’t see addressed… handy is the reverse stitch feature on the 06? Thx for any help you can be with this or any other advice you have for making this decision!

    • Hi Robin! The reverse stitch on the 11706 is very handy. It will produce a professional finish on the seams of clothing when you’re complete. I think the 06 is the right one for someone that is only 6 years old. It is a smaller than the other machines and will be much easier for them to carry around since it is only 12 pounds. Make sure that your granddaughter is supervised while using this machine. You might want to think about getting a finger guard as this model doesn’t come with one. I hope that helps. Thanks for visiting!

  2. Hi:

I am super torn btw Brother XL2600 and CS6000i.
My husband will buy me either one happily. 🙂
I dont want to spend more than I need to either. I like a bargin.
But I dont want to limit myself either.
I am a newbie—would like to make pjs, skirts, simple projects.
I have never quilted and don’t particularly like quilts–but what if someday i want to learn to make them.
    torn torn
I have seen them both at amazon read reviews etc
want to buy one and be done for life.

    • Hi Kate,

If you are looking for one that you will keep forever I think it is worth the few extra dollars to get the CS6000i. It comes with many more features and accessories that will leave your options more open in the future. I’ve had friends that have bought the less expensive machine, but regretted it when they wanted to do something that their machine couldn’t handle. They eventually ended up getting a more advanced machine in the end. I hope that helps.

  3. Hello,

I love your blog. I am starting to learn to sew and have been looking for a good beginner sewing machine. The Singer Talent 3323S was recommended to me and I was wondering if you are familiar with this machine and your opinion.

    Thank you,

    • Hi Heather, thanks for the kind words. I do know a bit about that sewing machine and it definitely would be a good choice for a beginner. It is a nice simple machine that performs well.

  4. Hi, My 11 year old granddaughter is very artistic and has expressed interest in having a sewing machine. I have read your reviews and responses. It seems most are getting these machine for younger children. Are these models appropriate for an 11 year old with no experience?
